Rwanda is a malaria endemic country. Visitors are encouraged to take adequate malaria prevention measures, including sleeping under a mosquito net. In addition, bringing basic medicines is encouraged, such as headache and cold medication, antiseptic cream, anti-diarrhea medicine, and band-aids. Tap water should not be drunk, but bottled water is available in all hotels and shops.
Rwanda's currency is the Rwandan Franc (RWF). Exchange rates are subject to fluctuation. Current rates are approximately 1 USD = 1,448.17 RWF. Currency can be exchanged at the airport, banks, hotels, and official exchange bureaus.
ATM services are widely available in Rwanda, and most international credit cards are accepted for payments. Major banks have branches in Kigali with ATMs that accept Visa and MasterCard. Most hotels and larger restaurants also accept credit cards.
Rwanda enjoys a temperate tropical highland climate. The average temperature in Kigali is around 21°C (70°F). Temperature varies significantly during the day, ranging from 12-27°C. Lightweight clothing is generally appropriate, but a light jacket may be needed for the evenings.
Rwanda operates on Central Africa Time (CAT). The time zone is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2).

Rwanda has implemented a ban on single-use plastic items. Non-biodegradable plastic bags are prohibited in Rwanda. Travelers are advised to leave plastic bags at home and use reusable cloth bags instead.

The electric supply in Rwanda is 220/240 volts. Outlets generally accept the two-round-pin European style plugs. It is advised to bring your own travel adapter if needed or purchase one at local stores.
Mobile network coverage is excellent in Rwanda, and international roaming is available with many major mobile networks. SIM cards from local providers (MTN, Airtel) can be purchased at the airport or in cellular shops throughout the city for affordable local calls and data.

Most offices operate Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Banks are generally open from 8 AM to 8 PM. Shops and restaurants are typically open until 10 PM, including on weekends.
